On Friday, 11th November, DP World detected a cyber-attack that disrupted nationwide wharf operations. To prevent further escalation, DP World implemented measures to restrict access to landside areas of their ports and severed all internet connections to the wharves and external systems. Despite mainstream media reports, both Patrick and Hutchinson terminals remain unaffected.
Throughout the weekend, we received numerous updates on the cascading effects of this incident, resulting in a complete halt of container movements on Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday.
As of 8am this morning;
DP World in Melbourne has resumed operations, albeit at a significantly reduced capacity, leading to considerable delays. DP World has asked that NO export containers be delivered to the terminal – all drivers will be turned away.
System testing has been successful in Brisbane overnight and operations are continuing. Albeit there is a backlog of containers to work through and delays should be expected.
In Sydney, Import operations have recommenced, but their continuity is uncertain, and minimal slots are available at the wharf.
The repercussions of this cyber incident will affect all shipments going through DP World terminal. This situation adds to the disruption caused by recent industrial action, leading to significant delays. Following the complete restoration of services, a substantial catch-up period is anticipated.
Priority will be given to import container collections over export receivals and DP World will extend free time for imports and adjust export receival times, as necessary.
